I heard torture used when referring to water-boarding for the 1st time on NPR's Morning edition today. I have heard some other shows use it but always the main NPR morning/afternoon shows have not used the word Torture when talking about water-boarding.
They still use the word with heavy caveat, as in "Water-boarding which the Red Cross considers torture." but they didn't use "enhanced interrogation technique" for once.

See when I read or hear that kind of story I worry that someone took the blue pill. (The Matrix reference)

Especially when you refer to rabbits. We all wonder about the rabbit hole.

Comment on Scientists Are Storytellers by Nathan

A large part of my feeling on this is that scientists are storytellers but they fear the label. Scientists often feel what they are doing is fundamentally different from what has been done in the past when it isn't. It seems likely to me that in 3-4 thousand years the difference between Muhammad and Newton will be insignificant.

That's a good question.

While I do not believe in a divinity figure in the Judeo-Christian-Muslim tradition, I respect that others have that belief. In my post I wanted to be careful to indicate that while I was discussing a Christian theology, I was not doing so from within the Christian faith (or from within the Judeo-Christian-Muslim tradition).

The actual practice of writing the name of the divinity without vowels comes in part from some branches of Judaism, in which it is traditional not to say the name of the divinity. (Some extend this to not writing the name, either, which leads to the exclusion of vowels.) Furthermore, Arabic as a written language is written without vowels.

In this post, then, I used the lack of a vowel as a way to refer respectfully but without close association to a figure extremely important in the belief traditions of many people.

I am so sorry to hear of your difficulties. I cannot imagine experiencing Post Concussion Syndrome on top of migraines--it's like you've got it coming and going.

I will hold you in my thoughts, wishing both of us a speedy recovery. Thank you for commenting.

I was just diagnosed with PCS as well. I am also a long time sufferer of migraine's, but this is the worst feeling ever. I literally cannot think straight, and have been having mini-panic attacks. My email is [deleted by Indigo] if you want to share anything you're going through, and how you are dealing with it.

Wow.

That is a TED talk I hadn't seem. He really created some amazing machines. They look really cool when they walk. It was interesting learn about how he built in the ability for the machines to move to keep themselves alive.
